As the saying goes, what goes around comes around. Another says we reap what we sow. One man, perhaps more than any of his peers; more than the rest of the fleet, whom he met in the sometimes slimy atmosphere of African politics; who, understands these expressions is former president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan the African president of Nigeria.

African Sun Times, deemed Africa’s apex newspaper in the United States of America, broached the no-brainer decision that gave Jonathan the International Person of the Year award.

In a statement justifying their decision the paper stated that:

Dr. Jonathan, who shocked the whole world by swiftly calling current Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari and conceding his defeat in the March 29 Nigerian presidential election, thereby stopping the predictions of violent bloodshed in Nigeria, and keeping his words that he would not allow the blood of a Nigerian to be shed to further his political ambitions. President Jonathan must be applauded for creating a solid foundation for the growth of democracy in Africa. The world has started to recognize President Jonathan’s courageous act.

With this high standard set by Dr. Jonathan the rest of the world would almost begin to see African politics with new hopes.
